  I own this bag. It’s not a fanny pack. It’s an accessory bag for the Dana packs. Dana’s pack/hip belts didn’t come with integrated quick access pockets like many packs these days. So they sold it as an add-on for quick-access to water bottles, maps, food, weed, whatever… As other posters noted it attaches at 2 points to your shoulder strap and another to the hip belt.

  I have an original Dana Designs fanny pack and it's in the same color but has a regular padded waist strap. The model name was the Ridge Runner. I also have a '91 Bomb Pack, '98 Bomb Pack, and a '94 Astralplane Overkill I bought before they sold the company. They made awesome bags before they sold to K2 and fell apart. Dana Gleason started Mystery Ranch afterwards and I have some of their gear too, although they were sold to Yeti coolers.

  So, these were originally called “Hooters” I sh!t you not. This is a Dry Hooter. Wet Hooters also had a water bottle sleeve. So, there are three point of connection on the shoulder harness straps. As you look at the picture, the two on the right will attach to your left shoulder strap below the padding. The one on the left will attach to your right shoulder strap below harness below the padding. The side release buckle on that strap is what allows you to get into and out of your pack. In theory, they were a great idea. In practice they were cumbersome.

  It's called a 'wet rib' pack because it goes over your ribs/chest. The pieces on the top right are designed to go onto your pack shoulder strap. On the left strap between your shoulder and hip. Not sure you could turn this into a fanny pack. Do you own a dana designs pack? or are you trying to use this without a backpack?

  This is a Dana Dry Rib, not a fanny pack. The straps from your shoulder straps thread thru the buckles and it rides below the sternum strap.
