Hey fellow ULers. After losing an Enlightened Equipment Visp rain jacket I'm looking at different replacement options that can handle the different environments on trails like the PCT, CDT and AT. Trying to get below 9lbs baseweight so preferably something not heavier than 3.5-4oz would be ideal. My usual setup consists of: - UL Hiking umbrella (attached to shoulder strap for hands-free use) - EE Visp rain jacket - Montbell Versalite rain pants I don’t usually hike in a fleece, so I use the rain jacket as an additional layer on cold mornings and throughout the day whenever it gets chilly. With the EE Visp, I would generally use the pit zips and front zipper for mechanical ventilation when it got too hot. I also use the rain pants to keep warm on colder days and sometimes roll them up for better ventilation if needed. Question: Has anyone tried non breathable DCF rain jackets like the Timmermade Mega Zip DCF or Silpoly jackets like the LEVE Gear ultralight jacket? With DCF, I would be concerned about durability, as mentioned in this post. Has anyone put the LEVE jacket through an entire Thru hike yet? Similar jackets, such as the LightHeart Gear rain jacket or the Rock Front rain hoody, look somewhat similar, albeit heavier. Any tips, insights or recommendations would be much appreciated! 我只能说说 Rock Front hoody，但我觉得它完全不透水，在大多数条件下都能穿，除了太暖和的时候，不过那种条件下本来也不会穿雨衣。就价格来说，我觉得它是现有最好的选择。如果价格不是考虑因素，那 Timmermade silpoly poncho 或 LEVE 也一样好用。不过等你给 LEVE 雨衣做压胶密封之后，重量可能就跟 Rock Front hoody 差不多了，而且 hoody 整体覆盖面积更大，因为它更长，袖子也更长。我觉得就功能而言，纸面上 hoody 胜出。像 Timmermade 和 Rock Front 这种 hoody 款式的好处是，有很多可调节的地方来做机械通风（全长侧拉链、1/4 长前拉链、面部抽绳），你可以根据自己的感觉调节，防止里面过热。我记下的一些使用场景。这些其实适用于任何不透气雨衣： 18C+ + 下雨 > 不穿雨衣，就让雨给你降温 12C-18C + 风/雨 > hoody，所有通风口打开，里面只穿 poly 打底 10C-12C + 风/雨 > hoody，调节通风口，里面只穿打底低于 8C + 下雨 > 加 alpha60 中间层……

I can only speak for the Rock Front hoody but I find it's absolutely watertight and wearable in most conditions except where it's warm enough, but in those conditions wouldn't wear a rain jacket anyway. For the price I think it's the best option available. If price isn't a factor then Timmermade silpoly poncho or the LEVE would work just as well. By the time you seam seal the LEVE jacket though the weight is probably not far off the Rock Front hoody, plus the hoody has more overall coverage as it's longer, and has longer sleeves. I think as far as function, the hoody wins on paper. What's nice about the hoody styles like the Timmermade and the Rock Front is there's so many available adjustments to mechanically ventilate (full length side zips, 1/4 length front zip, drawstrings at the face) that you can adjust based on how you feel to prevent overheating underneath. Some use cases I've noted for it. These apply to any non-breathable jacket really: 18C+ + rain > no rain jacket, just let the rain cool you 12C-18C + wind/rain > hoody, all vents open, only poly base layer underneath 10C-12C + wind/rain > hoody, adjust vents, base layer underneath only Sub 8C + rain > +alpha60 mid-layer + hoody

苏格兰徒步者在此。Rockfront 很棒。腋下拉链对气流帮助巨大。完全不透水，而且因为它不透气，能让我保持温暖。

Scottish hiker here. Rockfront rocks. Pit zips are huge for airflow. Watertight and keeps me warm with it's non breathability.

我最近在西高地之路上丢了 Rock Front，好难过。而且价格比我买的时候贵了好多。很棒的雨衣，但按新价格我不会再买了。

I’m so sad I lost my Rock Front on the West Highland Way recently. And the prices are so much more expensive than they were when I bought it. Great rain jacket, but I won’t be replacing it for the new price.

目前我就先用回我旧的 Frogg Toggs Xtreme Lite（聚酯那款），33 美元买的，一直很好用，我可能会看看能不能给它加上腋下拉链。

For now I’m just going back to my old Frogg Toggs Xtreme Lite (the polyester one) that I got for $33 and has served me well, I might see if I can add pit zips to it.

我也是 Rockfront hoodie 用户。今年夏天买的，但已经对它的效果印象深刻。袖子拉链可以完全拉开，所以也能当 poncho 用。它真的很轻，所以温度低于 10C 又下一整天雨时，体验和上面说的类似。我本来以为穿雨具会像传统那样闷汗，结果反而得加一层才能保持暖和。

Also Rockfront hoodie user. Got it this summer but already impressed how well it worked. Arm zips open all the way so you can use it like poncho as well. It's really light so similar experience as above when temps go under 10C and you get full day of rain. I was expexting traditional sweating in rain gear but had to add a layer to stay warm while moving.
