i am replacing bag and still can not decide between a clamshell and top loader. It will be carry on only, mostly city trips, and usually two to three weeks. i had rather hear what people actually ended up choosing and why than read another side by side spec comparison.

我以前用顶部装载式，后来换成了翻盖式，现在强烈偏好翻盖式。因为我能把包打得更开，所以能在各种边角缝隙里塞更多东西。而且，如果我要找包底某件特定的东西，不用把所有东西都倒出来才能拿到。

I previously had a top loading bag but switched to clamshell and strongly prefer clamshell now. Because I can open the bag more fully, I can store more stuff in the little nooks and crannies in my bag. Also, if I’m searching for one specific thing in the bottom of the bag, I don’t have to dump everything out to get it.

翻盖式。我以前因为各种原因用过传统背包，要盲掏半天才能拿到想要的东西，真是PITA。如果你用收纳袋（packing cubes），它们更适合放进翻盖式设计里，你能一眼看到所有东西，只拿需要的那件。

Clamshell. I've used traditional backpacks a few times for various reasons, it's a PITA having to blindly dig everything out to get what you want. If you use packing cubes, they're easier to fit in a clamshell design and you can see everything at once, removing only what you need.

我喜欢顶部装载式，但我会用收纳袋，到了目的地就把所有东西都拿出来。如果你更喜欢把东西一直留在背包里，那我会选翻盖式。

I prefer a top loader, but I use packing cubes, and unpack everything at my destination. If you prefer to keep your stuff in your backpack, I would have gone for clam shell.

一样一样。最好的建议。选的时候考虑这一点。我以前用翻盖式，但把它卖了，对我来说太乱了。收纳袋加顶部装载式。把收纳袋拿出来，东西可以留在袋子里，不想拿出来就不用拿。包就空了，所以如果你玩onebag，就可以用它。

Same same. Best advice. Choose regarded this. I had clamshell before, but i sold it, it was a mess for me. Packing cubes and top loader for me. Unoack the cubes, the things can be left in the cubes, no need to unpack if you dont want. Bag is unloaded, so if you use onebag, than you can use is to daybag.

和其他人一样，我觉得翻盖式才是正确选择。不用把整个包卸空就能拿几样东西，而且打包更容易：把衣服平铺，褶皱更少。说实话，我想不出顶部装载式有什么特别好的理由，也许是我漏掉了什么。

Like everyone else, I’m convinced the clamshell is the right way to go. It’s easier to grab a few things without unloading your whole bag, and easier to pack: laying your clothes flat and keeping them less wrinkled. I honestly haven’t heard a great rationale behind the top loading bags, but maybe I’m missing something.

我旅行主要用顶部装载式，图的是（稍微）轻一点，而且装随机大件物品的容量巨大（比如我买菜时背过一整个西瓜）。但不知怎么的，你临时要掏出来的东西总是埋在底部。现在旅行一年了，我后悔没买翻盖式。

I'm traveling with a toploader mostly for (marginally) lower weight and huge capacity for random bulky items (I've carried e.g. a full-size watermelon when grocery shopping). But somehow, whatever thing you quickly need to dig out is always buried down at the bottom. Now a year into the trip, I wish I'd gotten a clamshell instead.

真正的问题是你多久开一次包。如果你把东西拿出来放进抽屉，包一周都关着，那两种都行。但如果你是靠这个包生活、一天开好几次，翻盖式明显更好。

The real question is how often you’re opening the bag. If you unpack into a dresser and leave it closed for a week, either one works. But if you are living out of the bag and opening it multiple times a day, clamshell is noticeably better.

我真的很不喜欢铰链在侧面的翻盖式。让我觉得它就是个带背带的行李箱。我喜欢要么铰链在底部，这样它多多少少还能像普通背包一样用，要么就是顶部装载式。但如果是顶部装载式，收纳袋就更重要了。

I really dislike clamshells with the 'hinge' on the side. Makes me feel like it's just a suitcase with straps. I like either the hinge on the bottom, so it more or less works like a normal backpack, or top loading. But with top loading, packing cubes are more important.
