4 days in Seville from London, budget airline - needed to make the 40x30x20cm size restriction - AER Go Pack, Ultra custom sling from Arch_ind in the front pocket (for the destination), plane stuff/passport/tech in an Evergoods Cap1, electric toothbrush, pellegrino water bottle, med/dopp kit, and three small cubes from Triple Aught Design - inside was mostly linen/lightweight stuff - 2 pair of linen shorts, 1 athletic short, 3 linen shirts, 3 merino underwear, 1 athletic shirt, 2 pair of socks plus I wore a linen shirt on the plane, linen pants and had a Taylor Stitch Ojai Overshirt made from seersucker - easy and more than I needed but had the room. Sold everything I own and am traveling full time - main bag is a 22L Arch_ind - I'll share photos of it sometime.

关于收纳立方，真心问个问题。除非那个立方是附在包主体框架外面的那种（我就是这么做的），否则它们真的值得吗？严格来说，你在包内增加了更多“体积”，也许本来可以多放一两件衣服，不是吗？我理解它的整理功能，别误会，但就实际节省空间而言，我不认为它们是最好的选择

Genuine question about packing cubes. Unless said cube is sort of attached outside the main frame of the bag (what I do), are they really worth it? You’re technically adding more “volume” inside the actual bag, that perhaps could fit one or two extra pieces of clothing, no? I understand the organisational aspect of it don’t get me wrong, but for actually saving space, I don’t think they’re the best bet

Yes, in a small bag in particular you are not necessarily saving space. In fact you might be adding small hard to fill spaces. For me it's about containment. I've travelled for years with one small bag. When I get my laptop and tech out to do a day's consultancy, I don't want my underwear and other clothes flying out at the same time. I want my bag loaded like an office bag with a clothing cube and toiletry pouch added. Everything personal contained. Ditto at airport security when your bag gets pulled for inspection for some obscure reason. They see everything neatly packed. They know where the issue is. You don't get someone rifling through your entire bag with a crowd looking on. My clothing cubes with neatly rolled clothes - done in a manner Marie kondo would be proud of, get taken out of my bag, unzipped, put on the side and mean I have storage without unpacking. I only travel with ultralight containers and pick them carefully and have as few as possible. So this is what makes it worth it for me.

I never thought about it as containment rather than space saving. That actually makes a lot of sense.

Compression packing cubes can save a bit of space but nothing remarkable. They do keep everything densely folded/rolled and allow any style pack opening. They are like drawers and you select one item without disturbing everything else. I can empty and reload even a roll top in a minute.
